Install your WordPress chatbot with the ScanChat AI plugin

Do you have a WordPress website? The ScanChat AI plugin installs your WordPress chatbot without touching any code: you connect your account, choose your chatbot, and it appears on your website. It takes about two minutes.

Before you start, you need:

• a chatbot already created in your ScanChat AI dashboard (see Create your first chatbot);
• administrator access to your WordPress (version 5.8 or later).

Step 1: install the plugin

There are two ways to do it, whichever you prefer:

With the ZIP file (always works)

1. In your ScanChat AI dashboard, open My Chatbots and click your chatbot.
2. In the Embed Code section, find the "WordPress website? Install the plugin" box and click Download the plugin. You can also download it directly here.
3. In WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
4. Choose the scanchat-ai.zip file, click Install Now, then Activate.

From the official WordPress directory

The plugin is available in the official WordPress plugin directory. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New, search for "ScanChat AI", then click Install Now and Activate. The ZIP file above contains exactly the same plugin.

Step 2: connect your ScanChat AI account

1. In the WordPress left-hand menu, open ScanChat AI.
2. Click Connect my account.
3. You land on your ScanChat AI dashboard (sign in if asked). The "Connect WordPress" page lists your chatbots.
4. Select the chatbot to show, then click the Show "chatbot name" on your-site button.
5. You are sent back to WordPress automatically, with the message "Your chatbot is connected: it now appears on your website".

Only the chatbot's ID and name are sent to your website. The connection link expires after 15 minutes: if it has expired, click Connect my account again.

Step 3: choose where the chatbot appears

Once connected, the ScanChat AI page in WordPress shows the Display on this WordPress site box:

• Show the chatbot on my website: untick it to hide the chatbot everywhere without disconnecting it.
• Hide the chatbot when I am logged in to WordPress: keeps your own visits out of your statistics.
• Hidden on these pages: select the pages where the chatbot should not appear (checkout, legal notice…). Hold Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) to select several.

Click Save to apply your choices.

Everything else is set in your ScanChat AI dashboard

The plugin only displays your chatbot. Answers, appearance, welcome message, information to collect, leads and subscription are all managed in your ScanChat AI dashboard. Every change applies to your WordPress website, with no need to reinstall the plugin.

The ScanChat AI page in WordPress has shortcuts to My leads, Statistics, Customize and Subscription.

Is your website multilingual (WPML, Polylang…)? With the language set to Auto Detect, the chatbot follows the language of each page. See Welcome message and languages.

Troubleshooting

• The chatbot doesn't appear: clear your website's cache if you use a caching plugin (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed…), then open your website in a private browsing window. Also check that your trial or subscription is active in Billing.
• "Link expired or invalid" message: start the connection again with Connect my account.
• Switch to another chatbot: click Use another chatbot at the bottom of the ScanChat AI page in WordPress.
• Remove the chatbot: click Disconnect, or deactivate the plugin.
